Who is Kevin Benjamin?
Kevin Benjamin is a Queens-born, Los Angeles–based filmmaker, writer, and producer whose work explores creativity, cultural identity, legacy, and resilience. A first-generation American with Grenadian and Panamanian roots, he brings more than two decades of experience across film production, studio operations, and digital media to stories grounded in cultural specificity and emotional honesty.
Kevin began his career as a production assistant and later became a union grip, working on commercials, television series, feature films, and music videos. This hands-on experience gave him a ground-level education in visual storytelling and a lasting respect for collaboration. He later spent 15 years at The Walt Disney Company working in digital streaming and studio operations during a transformative period in media distribution.
A graduate of California State University, Northridge, Kevin holds a B.A. in Cinema and Television Arts and is a member of the Art of Documentary. His connection to filmmaking began as a child, standing in long movie lines with his mother and experimenting with his father’s video camera and home-editing equipment. In junior high school, he created his first documentary — a history project about the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Kevin’s recent work spans documentary, branded, music, sports, and community-centered storytelling. He has created content and mini-documentaries for Everytable, directed and produced a branded documentary conversation for the Redline Hotel, and wrote/co-produced “Dig,” a music video featuring his younger brother, Grammy Award–winning musician Casey Benjamin. His six-minute short documentary, Sekou: The Fortune Teller, follows spoken word artist Sekou Andrews as he pursues a second Grammy nomination after his first nominated album lost to Michelle Obama’s Becoming. Filmed in just 24 hours, the documentary screened at the South Central Film Festival. Kevin has also produced promotional content for an emerging sports league and serves as an executive producer of a sports and lifestyle talk-show/docuseries in development.
Through Razzle Dazzle Entertainment, Kevin is building a slate of documentary, unscripted, and narrative projects. The documentary about Casey Benjamin marks his feature documentary directorial debut. Drawing upon his professional experience and intimate perspective as Casey’s older brother, the film explores artistic ambition, family, grief, and the unfinished work of legacy. Kevin’s work is driven by a belief in storytelling’s power to preserve memory, create connection, and help people see one another — and themselves — more fully.
